The Vedas (/ˈvdəz, ˈv-/; Sanskrit: वेद véda, "knowledge") are a large body of texts originating in ancient India.  The Veda, for orthodox Indian theologians, are considered revelations seen by ancient sages after intense meditation, and texts that have been more carefully preserved since ancient times. In the Hindu Epic the Mahabharata, the creation of Vedas is credited to Brahma. The Vedic hymns themselves assert that they were skillfully created by Rishis (sages), after inspired creativity, just as a carpenter builds a chariot. (WIKIPEDIA)

Drawing the insipiration from the ancient Vedas, Rohit Bal has worked magic to produce designs that make this new lounge beautifully unique. The interiors are both elegantly graceful as well as exquisitely ornate. The carefully arranged backlit mirrors, in a range of shapes and sizes border on the artistic and are almost reminiscent of a forgotten era. India of yesteryears is thus married at once to a world distant from it. The rich-red brick walls, strategic soft lighting and flickering shadows from low intensity chandeliers create an earthy feel to the restaurant.  And it all comes together in a setting that showcases the magic that is woven when care is taken to bring together all that is exceptional.

VEDA is a Pan-Indian experience from which people will take back flavours and tastes of the glorious food of the vastly diverse richly blessed Indian Sub Continent. The cuisine is a contemporary interpretation of classic Indian cooking. Soulfully authentic yet so modern. Each one of the dishes is reflective of a commitment to preserving authenticity, identity and to ensuring a stirringly sumptuous culinary adventure. Everywhere, there are aspects of the creative genius from our very own Chef Amit who is totally inspired by the awe of Indian cuisine and its diversity.

Veda has been in existence since last 10 years , and to sustain and be consistently good for such long period in today’s world is a breakthrough. We were there to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of VEDA , few days back. To my surprise , it is still flocked by foreigners as it initially was.
The menu was special and very well curated by the Chef. The Litchi based mocktail was a great start to the journey. The Amuse Bouche, a galauti style hara bhara kebab was also well created. We were served the Malai chicken Tikka with cheese fondue which was really innovative as it was perfect for the lovely cold weather. The seekh kebab was fine but a little dry to my palette. Being a hardcore non vegetarian , still I loved the Malai Broccoli and the Paneer Tikka. I really liked the whole onion flower which was like onion bhajjia from Mumbai but a whole onion was batter fried cut in the shape of a flower (a little bland from inside though) Chef promised to work on it by adding some masalas to it and improvise it. The Asparagus Soup was awesome; it was served in an earthern cup giving it an Indian touch. The best was creation of the Nitro Palak patta chaat on our tables itself. It was a show par excellence involving molecular skills.

The mains included the all time favourite Dal Veda which is one of the best tasting Dal Makhni served in the whole country. The Mutton Nahari was good and the Raan (leg of lamb) was too good. But, we were almost full by now and were not able to relish anything else properly. There were at least 5 more dishes to be tasted but sorry, I could not and even skipped the Biryani , which was also one of the best as told to me by other foodies.  Still, we enjoyed our desserts and specially the chocolate paan at the end.

Overall, a very beautiful restaurant with the most romantic interiors and the most soul satisfying food, in the whole city. The new avataar of VEDA is a must try for all.

Warehouse Cafe has been a phenomenon in Delhi restaurant circles since the time it opened. Priyank Sukhija ' s one of the 1st ventures amongst the cafes opened in the recent 2-3 years period.
Recently it also opened up in the most coveted and crowded market of Sector - 29, Gurgaon.

We visited this iconic place a few days back during the night. Located in the main mkt. on the same side as Bikanerwala is this newly opened place. As you enter the place you get the feel of the same industrial setup and warehouse look. There is a bar area in the centre and seating on one side. The lower area in the basement is the main seating area with a proper bar setup on one side , a DJ set up one side and seating elsewhere with different seating options.

We started with a few drinks and ordered a few starters like Achari paneer tikka, Karari mushroom, Chicken tikka Lahsuni,  Mutton seekh , Spicy chicken Dimsums .The best of the lot was Paneer tikka , Chk. Tikka and the Dimsums. Fish n chips and the Waldorf salad were really nicely made.

The best part about this place is excellent service and really good bar tenders. Quick service from the kitchen is another highlight. They have a good collection of wines and other poisons too. Usually, I have noticed places such as these - lounge types do not focus much on main course dishes as mostly people enjoy finger food wither drinks. But to my surprise we loved the Dal Makhni and the Methi matar malai, also the Thai Green curry was very flavorful.

The collection of desserts is nice but not very innovative, as most of them were run of the mill. Brownie with Ice cream, Ice cream sundae, Bread crumbed Fried ice cream and a Phirni which was not too good. Probably desserts are not much in demand but I suggest them to work a little on their desserts so as to complete the full package.

Overall a nice and big place with positive vibes coming from all sides. A must visit for all the young at heart people. Great place to party with lovely food and service.

Food - 4.0 / 5.0
Ambience - 4.0 / 5.0
Service - 4.5 / 5.0
Overall - 4.25 / 5.0

Gaylord - Revisiting the old world charm

Gaylord-Revisiting the old world charm

An iconic restaurant which is almost a landmark destination for foodies in Mumbai, Gaylord indeed has stood the test of time and retains its old world charm. The staff is warm and attentive and when we decided to try their specials, the manager Rahul suggested us some of their all-time favourite hits from the menu.

We started the meal with the Hawaiian chicken salad- rich and creamy with tomato, pineapple, lettuce, capsicum and grated boiled egg garnish and walnuts to add the crunch, despite the abundance of dressing in it. My 7 year old relished the Lahori fish tikka which according to him was truly melting in the mouth, unlike most places which put an over load of mustard on the fish, it was subtle with a mix of achaari masala. The pepper chicken was more like chilly chicken, but the garnish of ginger strips gave it a bit of a twist.

As for the main course, as the ubiquitous butter chicken was highly recommended we went in for that, promising the taste of the typical Dilli-style rich and creamy style of the universal favourite dish. Although being a hard core Delhite myself just felt the gravy lacked the thick texture as well as the sweetness, which we have grown up eating in the capital city. The mutton bhuna gosht was well cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed the succulent pieces of mutton. The Pindi Chana was light, not oily at all, enjoyed the masalas but the tang was amiss, it could do better with some more chatpata seasoning. The Dal tadka was regular, well cooked and comforting as it should be, accompanied by Tandoori rotis. All in all a good and satisfying meal with great service in a warm ambience.

For Christmas until New Year,  Gaylord has launched a special menu of authentic Christmas dishes from all over the world ranging from X’Mas Medley, Chicken Marina, Baked Aubergines, Dum Gosht Biryani, Shakarkandi Kebab, Sarson da Saag, Beer Batter Prawns to a variety of Hors d’oeuvres. If one is in the mood to experiment, you can also try the Absolute Fantasy, Strawberry Margarita, Kiwi Mojito and of course specials from their bakeshop which was a European Bistro charm. These specials will be available from the 24th  2015 till the 3rd January, 2016.

Meal for two (without alcohol) - Approx Rs 1800 + plus taxes
